Was ist die Lebensdauer des Hinterrads?

What is the lifetime of the rear wheel?
Was ist die Lebensdauer des Hinterrads?

How long until the (plastic) material degrades?
Wie lange dauert es bis das Material degradiert/abbauen/sich zersetzen?

The reason I ask is because I have added two full size vaude packs, the same size as the classic ortliebs, and have the rear seat also (see photos). The bike is build year 1994; whereas some of you have a bike built 2005 (production stopped 2007, yes?), and so the material is newer and not likely to be a concern - yet :| .

I have had the oil plug crack (split, replaced with an order to Herbert) from tightening (see previous thread), and seen the clips that hold the reflectors on the rear give-way (broke off under light pressure).

thanks. :morgähn:

usually the wheels don't get broken, but they can break under too much load

That is completely different. Some materials need a water share, otherwise they are brittle, ander decompose under Ultraviolet light and others are heat sensitive.
Some plasic materials for example Poliamid PA66 need water up to 2.5 % ,

The main component of the rear wheel is aluminium. There is no plastic inside!
Aluminium degrades as well, if it is bent. We therefore beware, not to drive too fast on lousy roads.

ah dieter thanks. for some reason either my brain 'released' the answer or telepathically picked up on yours, sometime yesterday.... *THUMBS UP*

the reason I thought it was plastic is from environment, the grey dull colour is the same as the brittle reflector supports which came off easily (cracked) during maintenance. any idea what to do to replace those? I tried the kind of stick (tube) reflectors for round spokes, to clip them on the edges of the aluminium, but they do not stay on.

Thank you very much for the road tips: there are many bumpy brick roads; as I often joke: the bricks are for building - buildings. The concrete* is for roads... they got it backwards

* many UGLY slab-concrete pre-fabricated buildings exist, large concrete squares which would have been better as road surfaces than unmaintained bricks. :*)
